Defending Yourself With a Shotgun

Defending Yourself with a Shotgun

Course Description:
Nothing says “go away” like racking a 12 guage shotgun, but recoil is substantial, and they always need to be fed. This course explores the fundamentals of using the shotgun for defense.

Six hours can’t make you a gunfighter, but we will lay the foundation of principles that if practiced regularly will make you an “operator” of perhaps the most powerful home defense weapon. We’ll cover patterning, recoil management, ammunition selection, loading, weapon manipulation and retention, and tactical scenarios.

Course Requirements:
A serviceable shotgun. 12 gage pump preferred, but the shotgun you have is fine. You will need something to load from. Sidesaddles, belt mounted round holders, or a nice pocket. Bring 100 rounds of bird shot, (if you have an auto, make sure it cycles the gun) five buck shot and five slugs. Bring eye and ear protection, clothing appropriate to weather, open mind, lunch and plenty of fluids. Women should wear a sports bra as opposed to the strap/buckle kind. If you have a less than functional body part, knees etc, knee-pads are a good idea. Wear shoes with ankle support, and bring a few band aids, and a camp chair.
